What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, or a digital currency, a form of electronic cash. Bitcoin uses rules of cryptography for regulation and generation of units of currency.

It is a decentralized digital currency without a central bank or single administrator, that falls under the scope of cryptocurrency and was the first and most valuable among them. Bitcoin can be sent from user-to-user on the peer-to-peer bitcoin network without the need for intermediaries. It is commonly called a decentralized digital currency.

Bitcoin is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls Bitcoin and everyone can take part.

Bitcoin was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009.
